Ethical Social Work Practice: In a Virtual World

Course Summary & Objectives

This course will cover foundational concepts of ethical social work conduct, with an emphasis on how these ethics apply to practicing social work in a virtual context. As more and more social workers move into telehealth practice and engage in social media, this course will provide important information on how to function effectively within the boundaries of our professional values, principles, and ethics. This is an online, asynchronous (self-paced) course that uses a combination of reading, videos, vignettes, question/answer, and other online activities to engage participants. The course should take approximately 3 hours to complete.

Upon completion of this course, the participant will:
- Be familiar with ethical values and principles of the NASW Code of Ethics.  
- Be familiar with the Code of Ethical Conduct according to 201 KAR 23:080.  
- Be familiar with an ethical decision making framework for addressing ethical dilemmas.
- Be able to apply social work ethics to various aspects of telehealth practice.
- Be able to apply social work ethics to various aspects of social media use.
